STUNNING Hand Beaded Victorian Antique Sea Serpent Purse
Incredible Victorian beaded serpent purse. This just screams craftsmanship of the caliber you just don't often find any longer. This approximately 5 1/2 x 4 3/4 inch bag hails from Great Britain and was hand beaded and embroidered by someone in the latter 1800's with painstaking and loving care! There is colored embroidery in tight, neat stitches on the serpent - the blueish whorls of embroidery down at the bottom signify the waves that the sea serpent is roiling in! The purse has a decorative brass frame work with chain and snap toggle closure. The fine silk lining inside of the purse is clearly shredded in many places as can be seen in the photo, and there are some of the white beads missing in a few various places, in keeping with the age of this piece, but it does nothing to detract from the beauty of this bag. The inside of the bag, although shredded at the top, still has the little gathered pouch intact and the bottom is intact and can easily still carry small items without them falling through to the actual interior of the purse. This would make a fabulous display piece or a special gift for a collector!
